An international match of sporting prowess is set to face-off between the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) 1st Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (1 RCHA) Gunners and the Minnesota Warriors – St. Cloud in a weekend of sport starting July 13.
For the second year in a row, the Canadian and American military teams of active and retired members will compete in golf and hockey for championship bragging rights.
After the 2023 event held in Winnipeg, CFB Shilo hosts the 2024 showdown in a 12 p.m. shotgun golf start at the Shilo Golf and Country Club on July 13, followed by ice hockey on July 14 at J&G Arena in Brandon starting at 11 a.m. The public is welcome to attend.
“The atmosphere promises to be electric as these athletes demonstrate their speed, strategy, and teamwork on the ice,” said Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Sebastien Perreault, Acting Regimental Sergeant-Major, 1 RCHA.
“The exciting weekend of golf and hockey is poised to be a celebration of athleticism, teamwork, and the enduring bonds between nations … Golf enthusiasts and supporters of both teams are expected to turn out in numbers to witness the friendly yet competitive contest.”
The MWO expressed the teams’ eager anticipation for the event. Both the 1 RCHA and the Minnesota Warriors-St. Cloud are preparing to highlight the spirit of camaraderie and friendly competition between the Canadian and American forces.
“It provides an opportunity for both teams to showcase their talents and foster cross-border friendships through the universal language of sports.”
