2 CFB Shilo personnel recieve special honour from 3CDSG Commander

Two CFB Shilo personnel were honoured with the Commander’s 3 CDSG Command Team Coin on Oct. 19 when Col. Robbin Dove visited CFB Shilo, addressing CAF and civilian personnel.

Civilian public service employee Jeremy Bates and Corporal Derek Picklyk received the special honour at the completion of a town hall meeting held at the General Strange Hall where the 3 Canadian Division Support Group Command Team spoke to a nearly full-house audience.

“One of the best things we get to do as a command team is recognize folks that go above and beyond,” Col. Dove said as he presented the first coin to Bates.

In a statement read at the award presentation, Bates was recognized for his essential service throughout the 2023 fire season.

“He worked tirelessly to get firefighting equipment running properly and provided continuous support. Because of his promptness, Base Maintenance was able to focus on providing post-emergency support and kept the fire trucks operational with nearly no downtime.”

“Jeremy exceeded expectations by filling supervisory roles during personnel shortages and absences, continuously trying to develop better ways of improving shop production where they involve with new equipment to reduce repair times.”

He was noted as an essential asset to the maintenance team and demonstrated reliability excellence while providing a top-notch work ethic and an exemplary attitude toward his peers.

Corporal Picklyck was commended for his central performance at Base Supply after assuming the role of furniture affects coordinator during staffing shortages.

“[He] successfully coordinated and organized more than 200 move contracts for military members during the [posting season] of 2023 providing exceptional service to each military member during their moves,” the statement read.

The audience heard how the corporal volunteers his personal time to work with PSP in organizing numerous training, race and fitness competitions, all while remaining devoted to physical fitness and winning numerous CrossFit competitions himself.

“Cpl. Picklyk’s motivation, tireless work ethic, leadership and dedication to duty reflect the highest standards of professionalism within the CAF.”
