Hundreds of Valentine’s Day cards blanketed the desks of mail processing staff at CFB Shilo for Feb. 14 and were distributed to troops to spread some heartfelt warmth.

Little Lucy’s love reached the Canadian Armed Forces for the day of friendship and well wishes. Her handmade pop-up card artwork will adorn the work area of her card’s recipient. As well, as her fellow Grade 3 and 4 students from various schools in the Westman area sent more love, Dad jokes and warm sentiments remembering the contributions of CAF personnel.

One special card thanks soldiers for allowing the child to regain freedoms they had previously lost.

Warrant Officer Shannon Elliott said troops are extremely grateful for the students’ special efforts. For her, receiving the cards is a reminder that the students are being taught why it’s important to remember the military and the position it holds in our lives.

“It’s an indicator that the kids get that aspect and can pass on [sentiments] in remembrance.”

The much-appreciated and moral-boosting Valentine’s works of art were sent from various schools in Manitoba, including Wawanesa, Gladstone, Waskada and George Fitton, among others.
