CFB Shilo was a banner of colour when more than 70 participants came together to create a human rainbow to support Pride Month on June 14.
Ashley Cornect, youth programs coordinator for the Military Family Resource Centre(MFRC) and event organizer, said the event was originally planned as a youth function. However, it garnered such community interest that it broadened to include families and the public.
“[With our youth programs] we try to acknowledge. We try to be as inclusive as possible in the youth centre. We acknowledge all the special days throughout the year … ” she said.
With the increased interest, the event expanded from being the human rainbow photo to a family fun night with ice cream, games and music. Everyone could sign a Pride banner and participate in bracelet-making and outdoor games for an evening of friendship and entertainment.
