More than 760 lobsters flown in by plane from Nova Scotia landed in Winnipeg the day before they were cooked up at the 17th annual Down Homer Lobster Fest held at CFB Shilo on June 22.
Hosted by the Shilo and Regional Service Club, Vice President and event organizer (OPI) Regimental Major Lindsay Jackson expressed her deep appreciation for the Club’s tireless efforts in planning the event since November 2023. The event has become one of the biggest activity draws at the Base each year.
“We have about 70 volunteers from all over Manitoba here to make tonight work,” Jackson told Shilo Stag Media.
Jackson said the evening was a huge success and filled with prizes such as a $4,000 travel voucher, a $500 cash cheque, a $250 CANEX gift card, a tailgate barbecue kit, a juicer, a fancy toothbrush to keep the choppers clean after the lobster dinner, and tickets to next year’s Lobster Fest.
Each diner enjoyed the lobster and steak dinner accompanied by coleslaw, potato salad, and a fresh bun. A dessert table was adorned with plates of baked goodies provided by the Shilo Army cadets and sold for $5.
Guests danced as the band jammed, and the DJ played tunes into the night.
“It’s always a great time. This is the 17th year we have run the event, and it’s always fantastic. We are looking forward to Lobster Fest next year at CFB Shilo,” Jackson said.
