The City of Brandon has declared April as the month of the military child, with Mayor Jeff Fawcett making an official proclamation at a city hall flag-raising ceremony on April 9.

“Eighty-one thousand Military children experience parental absence each year due to Canadian Armed Forces service. Whereas 10,000 military families relocate across the country,” Mayor Fawcett said in his proclamation in council chambers, prior to a Teal Up flag raising in front of city hall.

“Military children face significant challenges throughout their young lives and overcome them.”

“Military Family Resource Centers across the country honour the resilience of military children on the last Monday of April, during the month of the military child. This year, Manitoban Canadians are encouraged to ‘Teal Up’ for military children on Monday, April 29.”

“Now, therefore, I, Jeff Fawcett, Mayor of the City of Brandon, in the province of Manitoba, do declare the last Monday in April to be Teal-Up Day in the city of Brandon.”
