Valentine’s Day has some extra sweetness this year with the Palentine’s kits available from the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC), creating opportunities for friends, families, and loved ones to spend special moments celebrating togetherness on Feb. 14.
Shannon Chapman, youth program director at the MFRC, and Nicole Taborowski, special events coordinator, said the Palentine’s kits have yummy and fun activities to revel in on the day of love and friendship.
The kits include a cupcake-icing activity with six scrumptious treats from Heritage Coop, plus everything you need to decorate the sacchariferous delights. The bouquet of games and projects may include frivolities such as Mad Libs, Valentine’s trivia, conversation hearts, home photo booth props, positive pens, friendship bracelets, and a canvas hand-painting craft to capture the moments.
“We wanted to [develop] a program to celebrate Valentine’s Day that was not stereotypical. We wanted something different … people could do in their own homes and have deeper, more authentic connections,” Chapman said.
“There is something for everyone. You can be a family with children doing these tasks, or a group of friends, or a Valentine’s date night. We want to make it as inclusive as possible,” Taborowski said.
“The hope is that everyone will enjoy it.”
The deadline to register for a $20 kit is Feb. 4, with pickup on Feb. 11, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Youth Centre in T99. Registration for a kit can be completed using the QR code or by contacting MFRC.
