“MCpl Bisset exemplifies professionalism and dedication in all aspects of her service. An outstanding MSE Operator, her technical expertise and support to flanking formations consistently enhances the Div’s performance and policy compliancy. Beyond her trade, she volunteers in the community by providing therapeutic horse riding for persons with disabilities. A key player in CAF sports, she has assisted coaches and team captains to enable participant success. Her mentorship and attitude have strengthened the team and made her a role model for others to emulate.”

Canadian Forces Base Shilo Soldier of the Year for 2024 is Master Corporal Stephanie Bissett. Awarded with the honour at the annual Soldier Appreciation Lunch held on Dec. 13, she was one of 17 personnel and civilians to receive recognition or promotion for a job over and above.
Firefighter Tyrus Cobb (G3 Emergency Services) was awarded the five-year General Safety Service Pin.
“Tyrus Cobb has been involved in the CFB Shilo General Safety Program for several years. Starting out as a Section Safety Representative for the Fire Hall in 2015, then moving into the position of Co-Chair of the Workplace Health and Safety Committee from 2018 to 2022, his contribution to general safety in CFB Shilo has been admirable as it has greatly promoted the workplace health and safety of all CFB Shilo employees and the continued success of the CFB Shilo General Safety Program.” (Photo unavailable)
Shauna Primmer (G4 Supply) was awarded the five, 10 and 15-year General Safety Service Pins.
“Shauna Primmer has been deeply involved in the CFB Shilo General Safety Program for many years. Starting out as a Section Safety Representative in 2009 at the Flat Lands Dining Hall, then moving into the position of Co-Chair of the Workplace Health and Safety Committee in 2023, her thirst for knowledge and her can-do attitude has greatly contributed to the workplace health and safety of all CFB Shilo employees and the continued success of the CFB Shilo General Safety Program. Received Command Coin: “MCpl Ford conducted two separate training sessions for BASF personnel, focusing on search techniques for individuals and vehicles and setting up vehicle checkpoints. His instruction emphasized thorough and systematic approaches to ensure safety and effectiveness. MCpl Ford demonstrated methods for conducting pat-downs, inspecting vehicles for contraband, and establishing secure vehicle checkpoints. This training aimed to enhance the BASF team’s proficiency in maintaining security and preventing unauthorized access, contributing to overall operational security and readiness.”

From MFRC – Ms. Nicole Taborowski
Received Command Coin: Nicole Taborowski has made a significant impact in Shilo. She is often the first smiling face you see at community events and activities in the morning. As the face of the Shilo Military Family Resource Centre during DAG activities at 1RCHA and 2PPCLI, Nicole understands the importance of supporting families in this community. Her dedication goes beyond her role as the Deployment & Special Events Coordinator; as a military spouse, she deeply understands the necessity of having resources available for those in need. Nicole actively participates in most community partner activities, always ready to lend a hand and support local partners. She has consistently welcomed new programs to address emerging needs in the community and advocates passionately to ensure their implementation.

From the Base Padres – Lt(N) Barbouri
Received Command Coin: Boghos Barbouri is a dedicated community supporter within CFB Shilo. His exceptional collaboration with the entire community, especially regarding the well-being of our military members, has not gone unnoticed. Various organizations and individuals who have interacted with Padre Barbouri recognize his remarkable contributions. His tireless efforts and unwavering commitment have made a significant impact, fostering a sense of unity and support within the community.

From Base Transport – Cpl Etang
Received Command Coin: In the absence of both supervisors, Cpl Etang stepped in as Acting IC of GPV. Demonstrating critical thinking with their ability to navigate and prioritize tasks with varying levels of complexity, this analysis has optimized Transport’s ability to support concurrent activities and provide outstanding customer service. When not supporting Base clientele, Cpl Etang expanded their passion for CAF sports by coaching and refereeing junior Basketball within Brandon. Having only recently re-mustered from Infantry to MSE Op, Cpl Etang has consistently demonstrated the capacity to perform above that of their current rank.

From Base Supply – MCpl Grove
MCpl Grove demonstrates outstanding work ethic, leadership, and expertise. Drawing from their expansive knowledge to lead subordinates through new and difficult tasks, MCpl Grove provides opportunities for the growth and development of junior members all while providing unparalleled customer service. Having only been posted in this summer, MCpl Grove has quickly become a cornerstone in the operations of Base Supply, and was instrumental in the preparation, execution, and rapid completion of the MCU-MT kitting. MCpl Grove exemplifies the resourcefulness and determination required to ensure mission success.

From Base Ammo – Sgt Young
Received Command Coin: Throughout the year, Sgt Young’s efforts consistently made a positive impact in a high tempo environment with very little staffing. Regardless of their own tasks and heavy workload, they consistently took time to mentor their peers and subordinates, going above and beyond to help wherever possible. Their advice and technical proficiency led to a significant amount of trust both internal to the Unit and with external dependencies, improving working relationships from an operational and institutional perspective. Their commitment to improvement, safety, and policy greatly contributed to the success of the Base’s L1 Ammunition and Explosives Safety Inspection.

The 2024 CFB Shilo Sr NCO of the Year is awarded to from Base Foods – Sgt Ashmead
For outstanding performance as the Acting Kitchen Manager, Sergeant Fraser C. Ashmead is recognized as the Senior NCO of the Year. He has been working above his rank and experience for over a year which means being intimately involved in the staffing process. This includes the good like processing and onboarding all new hires but also dealing with personnel issues like personality conflicts. Sgt Ashmead’s leadership has resulted in the base kitchen now being able to support base activities like Mess Dinners that were previously unsupported due to staffing. Sergeant Ashmead also contributes to the betterment of his community as a representative on the CFB Shilo Community Council and a member of the CFB Shilo Sergeants’ and Warrant Officers’ Mess Committee.

The 2024 CFB Shilo Civilian of the Year is awarded to, From Base G8 – Janna Mushie
Since March 2024, Ms. Janna Mushie of CFB Shilo, has been facilitating the role of Base Comptroller. Operating above and beyond normal expectations, they demonstrated excellence in coordination and control of a multi-million dollar budget, enabling and orchestrating training within their Branch, and providing trustful and thorough advice as an Acting Branch Head. Notwithstanding this, they are also largely involved in local hockey community, while additionally sitting on multiple community committees. For their outstanding dedication in support of both the workplace and community, they are recognized as the 2024 3rd Canadian Division Support Group Civilian of the Year.
For her actions this year, Ms. Mushie has also been recognized as The 2024 3 CDSG Civilian of the Year

Officer of the Year – Captain Blake Grimeau
“For outstanding performance and the Pers Services Officer, Capt. Blake Grimeau is recognized as the CFB Shilo Officer of the Year. Captain Grimeau’s experience and corporate knowledge have been relied upon and utilized very heavily by all members of Base Headquarters, including the Command Team. This year Capt. Grimeau easily handled short-notice issues like coordinating CAF Appreciation Days while volunteering for the Shilo community events like Golf Nationals. His knowledge of the BTL soldiers and officers ensures their needs and desires are balanced with the future and potential needs of the CAF. Capt. Grimeau’s adaptability, flexibility and earned trust has made him an easy choice to be the Adjutant and the Officer of the Year.”

“For those who may not know, a long-standing tradition is the exchanging of tunics/ranks. Initially only exchanged between the Commanding Officer and the youngest member of the unit, the tradition has since expanded to include an exchange between the RSM and the oldest member of the unit. Per tradition, once the tunics are exchanged, the youngest member will take on the role of CO and the oldest will take on the role of RSM.”
