The 3 Cdn Div TC C Coy Det Shilo OC was added to Garrison Edmonton’s women’s slo-pitch team when it hosted the four-day national tournament.
Playing right field and batting in the middle of the line-up, Maj Marshall had a number of key hits which allowed the Garrison Edmonton Warriors to garner gold in the championship tilt with an 18-13 triumph over the Garrison Petawawa Stags.
This is the second gold medal from nationals for Maj Marshall — she played on the Warriors in 2018 when she was previously posted to 3 Div.
Following a 29-20 victory over CFB Halifax in a morning playoff tilt at the women’s national slo-pitch championships in Alberta, host Garrison Edmonton faced Garrison Petawawa for a third time in the four-team tournament.
Because the Warriors finished first overall, a loss to the Stags in opening playoff action allowed them to face CFB Halifax to earn a trip to the final. Maj Marshall and her teammates rallied for a 21-16 victory.
CFB Halifax defeated CFB Valcartier 21-6 in the other playoff contest, which let to the east coast team facing the host Warriors to see who would advance to the gold medal game. The host team had their offence in overdrive, leading to the 29-20 triumph.
In round-robin play, the Warriors edged fourth-place CFB Halifax 12-11, defeated second-place Garrison Petawawa 11-8 and held on for a 19-17 victory over third-place CFB Valcartier.
Maj Marshall was picked up by the host team after she played in the Canada West tournament for 17 Wing Winnipeg. CFB Shilo did not field a team for the 2022 season for Canada West regionals also hosted by Garrison Edmonton.
