It was a dual assignment for the Chief Professional Conduct and Culture (CPCC) at the visit to CFB Shilo by an award to Master Sailor Chandra Burke and addressing troops at an open forum on Jan. 25.
“Chief Professional Conduct and Culture works to unify and integrate all associated culture change activities across the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). It is the centre of expertise and the single functional authority for aligning Defence culture to ensure professional conduct meets the standards expected of the profession of arms and the Defence Team.”
The Director General Engagement, Policy, and Research is on a tour of CAF Bases across the county to engage and obtain open ground-floor feedback that will fuel research and policy development.
Chief Petty Officer 1st Class, Line Laurendeau, presented the award coin to Master Sailor Burke for her dedication to several committees and forwarding worthy causes around the Base.
“Master Sailor Burke has been an active participant in leading change at CFB Shilo, which outlines her commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion.”
Burke has shown outstanding effort in Defence Advisory Groups such as 2+LGBTQIA, Party Planning as the entrainment OPI and continuing to support efforts of the Heritage Committee.
“[She] has demonstrated great values which align with the respect of others and promote a positive work environment.”
The master sailor was praised for her dedication to changing the culture in the CAF. She was exemplified as being someone to rely on who sets an excellent example for her subordinates and peers.
“Leaders like you, who lead by example, are rare. We need more of you. It’s a privilege and honour on behalf of our Command, Chief Petty Officer First Class Pascal Harel and our Lieutenant-General Jennie Carignan, to recognize your effort and your time. I think the team here should be happy to celebrate that moment because it’s one of yours and one of CFB Shilo’s,” CPO Laurendeau said.
