CCNA announces Stag editor garners three national journalism awards: two for historical feature writing, one feature photography

Delayed for more than two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the award-winning Shilo Stag has garnered three national top-three premier journalism awards, according to News Media Canada. The Canadian Community Newspaper Association (CCNA) list of award winners — entries for this competition included works published in 2020 and 2021 —was announced Nov. 18 from Toronto, Ont.
Repatriate 1RCHA’s Royal Cypher: Lahr to CFB Shilo

Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (RCHA) units are distinguished by the presence of the Royal Cypher on some of their appointments. The RCHA Badge — or Garter badge as it is sometimes termed — is based on the badge of the Order of the Garter, which dates from 1348. The motto on the cypher is “Honi soit qui mal y pense” or “Shame on him who thinks this evil.”

B Coy Cpl Mackenzie Shambrook provided his comrades with the back story while they stood solemnly in a foot of snow, light flurries falling from the overcast sky.

B Bty started Ex SWARMING BEE with a bang, engaging DANGER CLOSE targets at just more than 400 metres, supporting 1PPCLI with All Arms Calls for Fire and working alongside 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron conducting some Air OP missions. This exercise led into 1PPCLI’s Ex PATRICIA WOLVERINE, a key step in preparing for Op REASSURANCE and deployment to Latvia later this year to replace A ‘The Queen’s’ Bty.
