Issues affecting today’s Military were discussed between CFB Shilo Base Command, unit leaders and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence on July 15.

Marie-France Lalonde, Liberal MP for Orleans in Ontario and Parliamentary Secretary, toured the Residential Housing Units on the Base after meeting with Lieutenant-Colonel David Cronk to see firsthand some of the issues affecting Canadian Armed Forces Members.

Discussions included how to quickly improve recruitment and retention, particularly in more rural areas across the country. They also spoke about the challenges military families face when they relocate and measures taken through the recent defence policy update to address this. Improvements to housing, childcare and healthcare, particularly when transferring from one province to another, were also topics of conversation.

The Parliamentary Secretary also met with three members deploying to Operation REASSURANCE this fall. She thanked all members posted at CFB Shilo for their service to all Canadians.
