Shilo firefighters were an inferno to be tamed when they won the best crew participation award, while Fire Chief Aaron Bull won the best male performer award at the inaugural 2025 Department of National Defence Tactical Firefighter games.
More than 147 emergency rescue personnel from eight fire halls were registered in the event, with 29 Canadian Armed Forces firefighters and 66 Department of National Defence personnel participating.
The PSP-led initiative aimed to create an engaging and challenging event testing physical fitness and operational readiness concepts for the Department of National Defence Fire Service (NDFS) and Canadian Armed Forces Fire and Rescue personnel.
Just less than 100 per cent of all participants successfully completed the
games circuit, Jennifer Hevey, CAF fitness and wellness manager, said.
Firefighters displayed their tactical knowledge and skills in categories such as Best Fire Hall Participation, Best Crew Participation, Best Male and Female Performer and Best in Participation.
Hevey said initial feedback has been “overwhelmingly positive.”
“It’s clear that the NDFS community is home to some incredible athletes … We were especially proud to see strong representation from female firefighters and leaders, making this first edition truly inclusive.”
Best Fire Hall participation was awarded to Wainwright in first place and Edmonton in second.
“Focus was on encouraging participation rather than performance,” the organizers stated.
