Brandon Fire and Emergency Services cleaned up a bet and made good on a promise to wash a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) after losing to the CFB Shilo team in a February hockey game.

The May 17 hose-down and wash saw more than seven firefighters and paramedics from the city department hockey team visit the Base to get the dirty deed done after losing the friendly wager.

Fire Chief Terry Parlow said it was a great way for the first responders to build relationships with the Canadian Military.

“This is an amazing time for us to be able to spend with the Shilo military and Lieutenant-Colonel Cronk. And, it’s a lesson learned that when you bet the Lieutenant-Colonel, you’ll have to pay up.”

CFB Shilo Base Commander, LCol Cronk said it was great to have the troop of guys out to wash the vehicle after their defeat.

“It’s great to see the Brandon Fire Department out making good on their promise to wash vehicles after losing to us in a great game of hockey … It was a well-earned defeat.”

The first responders had the mud-caked and dirtiest LAV the Shilo personnel could find washed and shining in less than an hour.
“Probably, the most important thing about this is not only the relationship but that we get the opportunity and honour to wash a piece of equipment that keeps our country safe and protects our soldiers,” Parlow said.
