Former Base Commander of CFB Shilo, Lieutenant-Colonel (Ret.) Richard (Rick) Stanley Wilson passed away peacefully in Kingston, Ont. on Nov. 3, with his family by his side, his daughter Colleen Grebstad said.

The obituary provided to Shilo Stag News by the family reads:

“Born in Rossland, B.C on 25 Sept. 1946, he is survived by his wife Bonnie (nee Daye). Rick is lovingly remembered by his daughter Colleen (David) of Ottawa and Daniel (Stephanie) of Cobourg.

Rick grew up in beautiful Kimberley, B.C. and joined the Regular Force as an artillery officer in 1964. Shortly thereafter, he was posted to northern Germany, where he met Bonnie, a young nursing officer who quickly became the love of his life.

Together, they enjoyed numerous postings across Canada, the U.S. and Europe before culminating his career as the Base Commander of CFB Shilo, from where he retired in 2001.

His time in Shilo was particularly precious to him and his memories of this time never faded.

Not one to sit still, he spent many happy seasons exercising his green thumb at the Green Spot garden store in Brandon, M.B. and in his own backyard.

In 2014, Rick and Bonnie moved closer to their children and grandchildren, Madeleine and Emme, in Ont., settling in Kingston and reuniting with old friends and meeting many new ones.

The celebration of life will be held at James Reid Funeral Home, Crematorium and Reception Centre in Kingston on Nov. 10 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to Homes for Heroes Kingston a local village for veterans which provides critical resources, services and training to help veterans integrate and thrive in civilian life.
