Real Property Operations Unit (W) – Det Shilo and CFHA HSC Shilo are looking for occupants interested in collecting and composting food waste as part of a composting pilot project.

As we approach Fire Prevention Week running from Oct. 9 to 15, CFB Shilo’s Fire and Emergency Services would like to urge all Base residents to take this year’s theme to heart: “Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape!”

Every summer for the past 25 years, Dr. Gordon Goldsborough has led his students to a place where they can walk on water. Literally. Known as a Quaking Fen, this unique area in CFB Shilo’s Range and Training Area (RTA), is a place where peat and soil float atop the water allowing grasses, reeds and even trees to grow.

Shilo Community Council and BRSM CWO Jeremy Abrahamse want to remind residents the use of ATVs and dirt bikes on the newly completed 11-kilometre Base walking trail is not permitted. ATVs, or quads, and bikes will cause ruts and damage, plus are also dangerous to pedestrians using the trail.

The GSH pool will be closed for facility maintenance from Sept. 6 to Oct. 14. Swim lessons are being offered if interested from Aug. 15 to 25. Call 204-765-3000 ext 3318 to register for classes.

BSO 3.6 All persons operating a bicycle within the confines of CFB Shilo shall wear a certified helmet. Bicycle passengers including those in trailers, where permitted, shall wear a certified helmet. The MP Pl Comd may authorize the temporary seizure of a bicycle where the operator fails to wear a helmet.
