Staff of the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) fed more than 400 attendees at the CFB Shilo Military Appreciation Barbeque on Sept. 17.  Organizers said the highlight of this year’s event was watching the Shilo community interacting with community partners and enjoying some amazing food. The Minister of National Defence, the Honourable David McGuinty, issued the following statement today for Military Family Appreciation Day:

“Our families are the foundation of our lives. They give us belonging, purpose, and strength. They are the voices that guide us, the steady hands that support us, and the unwavering presence that lifts us through every triumph and every trial.

“On this 7th annual Military Family Day, we honour not only Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members, but their spouses, children, parents, siblings, and loved ones who stand steadfastly by their side. While a CAF member makes the ultimate sacrifice in service to Canada, so too do military families at home. Their sacrifices are often unseen, yet they resonate across the CAF community.

“From relocating to a new city, to taking on a new job, to adjusting to a new school, military families navigate immense challenges. Their contributions during a loved one’s military career are invaluable, sustaining the strength and spirit of community across Canada.

“To each and every one of you, I offer my heartfelt thanks and deepest appreciation.”
