From newspaper’s 75th anniversary, Stag editor culls 2022 quotable quotes from 16 editions

Quotes are the backbone for a reporter building a story for the reader — these words surrounded by quote marks provide context, or sometimes colour depending on the flavour of the news story or feature appearing up on the computer screen. Quotes are collected when reporters scribble in their notepads or for some new generation scribes, recorded on an iPhone or tape recorder the size of a Snickers chocolate bar.

Mock winter rollover exercise provides Base firefighters with chance to use extrication skills using specialized tools

Recent heavy snowfall provided an opportune time for Shilo firefighters to hone their MVC rollover skills during a mock extrication exercise. A rollover scenario was established near the north gate entrance just before the 30-kilometre signage at the tight curve leaving the Base.

MCpl Jean-Pierre Cliche’s was recognized for his outstanding dedication, leadership and service to CFB Shilo and Base Maintenance during the annual soldiers’ appreciation Christmas dinner held at L25.

BComd LCol Chris Wood was unable to attend the annual soldiers’ appreciation dinner, so COS Maj Scott Youngson shared his year-end message before turkey dinner was served. “I am extremely proud of how, as a community, we’ve worked together … and of what we’ve accomplished together,” wrote LCol Wood in his address relayed by Maj Youngson.

12 of 23 infantry graduates posted to 2PPCLI

2PPCLI’s ranks grew by 12 infantry soldiers following the intense 11-week DP1 Infanteer course. The course run by 3CDTC C Coy Det Shilo initially started with 48 candidates, but with injuries, dropouts and CAF recruits deciding to re-muster from infantry to another trade following their DBMQ, it was 23 who stood on the MPTF’s parade square in front of more than 60 family members.
