1CMBG PAO Capt Ryan Bartlette supplied action photographs from the championship bouts featuring 2PPCLI grapplers involved in the annual Ex STRONG CONTENDER hosted by Garrison Edmonton. 2PPCLI’s team finished second coverall, with A Coy rifleman Cpl Kevin Camara winning the advanced heavyweight division. He’s also the local coach for soldiers involved in the Shilo BJJ rec club. In his three matches, they were over quickly. Facing 1RCHA CO LCol Joe O’Donnell, who he coaches here, Cpl Camara used an arm bar submission to win in one minute, 10 seconds. His next two bouts were over even quicker: second opponent in a choke submission in 31 seconds; the final saw his opponent defeated in 45 seconds with another arm bar submission.
