In a landslide defeat, 1 RCHA’s B Battery lost its grip on the Canadian Armed Forces
Kingston Cup, with A Battery stealing the prized jewel in an 11-3 win on Dec. 4.
Ex PUCKING-GUNNER, played annually on St. Barbra’s Day saw spectators cheer at
the many goals and encourage those gloves-off moments of rivalry between the two
teams.
The Kingston Cup’s history dates back to 1873, before the National Hockey League's
(NHL) top honour, the Stanley Cup. It is competed for by the Canadian Armed Forces
Members, specifically 1 RCHA, on St. Barbara’s Day.
Saint Barbara is the patron saint of gunners, engineers, and others who work with
cannons and explosives. She was an early Christian Greek martyr born in mid-third-
century Phoenicia.
In a game closely following the Kingston Cup, C/Z Bty cut up the ice against HQ Bty in
an affront for Hugsweier Cup supremacy with a 10-1 final claim of the hockey crown.
