More than 90 children and youth participated in two separate parties the CFB Shilo Military Family Resource Centre hosted for Teal Up month on April 6.

Teal Up month in April is recognized as the month to honour military children’s contributions and sacrifices made in support of their CAF parents.

Events are held across the nation to support the “dandelions,” which can be blown anywhere and take root in the most challenging of terrains. The dandelion was chosen in 2021 to be the emblem to represent military children’s resiliency.

MFRC in partnership with PSP joined forces to dance the night away in the Teal Up month launch held at the junior ranks mess.

“We had pizza, treats, music and dancing, games, bracelet making, glow sticks and swag, face painting, a terrific teal photo booth and even some impromptu karaoke, with all of our local ‘Swifties’ singing their hearts out. Everyone had a blast!” MRFC stated in a recap of the evening.

A much-loved treat unique to the occasion was the AquariYUMS, which are junior fishbowls and the signature teal-coloured mocktail.

The Teal Up Show of Support parade will be on April at 10:30 a.m. to show military children in the community they deserve a parade, MFRC stated. The parade will start from the Officers Mess parking lot. Later in the day will also be the Teal Up Celebration Barneque from 4 p.m.m to 6p.m. at the MPTF. Everyone is welcome and registration is not required.
