PPCLI history — On Oct. 30, 1917 at Passchendaele, PPCLI’s Sgt George Mullin attacked a German pillbox and killed a sniper outside it. He climbed onto the pillbox’s roof and shot two machine gunners. He compelled 10 others to surrender. For his actions Sgt Mullin earned the Victoria Cross. Following the war, the US-born infantry solider returned to his hometown of Moosomin, where he’s buried at south cemetery in Saskatchewan following his death age 71 on April 5, 1963. 2PPCLI soldiers visit his grave annually Nov. 11, then participate in the town’s outdoor Remembrance Day ceremony at the cenotaph.
